Is that where the rock, paper, scissors contest came in?
(There’s a YouTube video of Hogan competing with students.) I hadn’t played rock, paper, scissors since I was a kid. It wasn’t staged. I really did win. It wasn’t rigged at all. Whose idea was that? Somebody in our communications department, working with the students. They thought it would be fun to do. You know there’s a rock, paper, scissors group here? I had no idea. I’ll be challenged. One of your first tasks will be to help select a new chancellor at Urbana. What will you look for? I want to sit down and talk with our board. The university structure needs to be carefully looked at. It’s a good time to look at cost structures. Stan Ikenberry says we have a wonderful interim chancellor. We’re in good hands for the short haul, at least six or seven months. Do you anticipate bringing in new administrators? I don’t think so. I have a chief of staff right now at UConn, I worked with her at the University of Iowa. She’s a professor of sociology, very distinguished. I’ll try to bring her.
