Is Text Messaging an Effective Way to Communicate?
There’s nothing surprising about the success of all the things our vital little cell phones serves as a vessel to bring forth, like the ringtones they make from all our favorite songs, and the mobile adaptations of our favorite videogames. The success that became of text messaging, however, came as quite a shock to many in the mobile industry. Text messages or SMS (Short Message Service) are messages composed via telephone number pad or keypads that do not exceed 160 characters in length sent mobile-to-mobile. Text messaging, or “texting” as it has come to be known, was something nobody thought would catch on. In the days of its infancy, mobile phones still only featured number pads and for each letter and symbol in the text message, the composer would have to tap the characters’ corresponding keys until he arrived at this desired character.
