Husker fans know how difficult it can be to close the deal on those last two, considering how often the Huskers were two games from a national championship, only to fall short. Texas is a two touchdown favorite over Nebraska and any objective analysis of the teams this year would support that expectation. Still, there’s something about the Longhorns you can’t quite put your finger on that doesn’t feel like a national champion. They play excellent defense and that should be enough, except Nebraska, Alabama, and Florida all give up at least 4 points fewer per game. The Longhorns score a ton of points, but then so did a team like 1995 Florida or 2008 Oklahoma and we know how things turned out for those squads in the national championship game.
