Is testing for downs syndrome during pregnancy safe?

In order to test for Downs, you have to do an amniocentesis (sp?). Everywhere I have read, it has the risk of a miscarriage in 1 out of 200 healthy pregnancies…so that chances are lower than they used to be, but it can still be a risk. You do that test somewhere between week 15-20 of pregnancy. If you want a baby, I would try sooner than later!

You can have the baby tested with an amniocentesis and it is pretty safe nowadays. They take only about an ounce of fluid from the amniotic sac. The fluid will replace its self naturally within a few hours.

it is very safe they do the test when they take your bloods at 14 wks or if you have twins they do a scan just like any other scans
