Is test preparation necessary for the SATs?
The jury is still our on the benefits of coaching for standardized tests. Students who have the will power and dedication to devote time to practicing test-taking skills and skill building on their own may very well be able to improve their scores without help. Simply retaking the test often results in higher scores. Test preparation courses may boost self-confidence, provide a structured environment for preparation, give the students an opportunity for frequent practice of taking the test under simulated testing conditions and help reduce test anxiety. Most students do participate in some sort of prep work prior to taking the SAT I and ACT tests.
