Is telling someone they e getting fat kind or cruel?
In my opinion, because I have had weight problems my entire life, I think a true friend would answer honestly when the subject is mentioned, but keep their opinion to themselves otherwise. I say this because most people certainly realize they are putting on weight, even if they don’t want to admit it right away (2 months is not really THAT long), and someone saying something about it is not going to help the situation, especially if it’s comfort eating. If you want to help your friend, encourage her to go to the gym with you or involve her in other activities to help burn those calories she’s consuming AND help her get over the break-up. Hopefully she’ll get a grip on her emotions and her weight, but I honestly think it would be cruel and counterproductive to mention her new weight gain at this point.
I used to be chubb. Don’t tell her she is getting fat she is miserable enough. and yes it does creep up on you and also you delude yourself until one day you look at yourself with horror and realise you are a chubb. Then people start being mean to you and you start obsessing about your weight and all your clothes fit funny and your self esteem plummets. Tell her you are worried that you are putting on weight and also you want to get healthy and does she want to go walking and stuff cos being in nature is proven to lift your spirits. So does exercise. Thats all you can do. I am slim now but if you even slightly implyed i was fat i would have a fit at you.
