Is technology currently available in schools and to what extent?
As computers become accessible in restaurants, airports, and coffee shops, schools are getting their fair share of technological integration. Classrooms across America are filled with technology from computers, Smart Boards, and calculators, to Pocket PCs, IPODs, and video equipment. Technology is abundant in schools, but the question at hand is, are the teachers capable of teaching children how to use this equipment? According to the NCES survey conducted in 1999: • Teachers with more experience working on computers at home were more likely to use computers or the internet to gather information, write lessons plans, and create instructional material. • Teachers are more likely to use computers and the internet when they were located in their classrooms. • Students with computers at home were more likely to use computers in the classroom.
