Both are equally preferable. Some types of siding will not allow metal flashing to fit up under the siding. For decks that abut this siding, tape must be used. On outside edges of your deck, we recommend metal flashing. Metal flashing creates a metal drip edge, to prevent water from running underneath the deck, and to prevent soiling the fascia board.
