17 Feb 2010 Has Martin Amis based one of his characters on Tamasin Day-Lewis? Tamasin Day-Lewis, author of books such as The Art of the Tart, has revealed that some people believe she is featured in Martin Amis’ latest novel. Writing for the Evening Standard, the author said that there is a possibility that certain characters in Amis’ The Pregnant Widow could refer to her. The two writers knew each other well in their younger days and spent a great deal of time with one another. This lends itself to the theory on account of the fact that the book focuses on a group of intelligent young people in the summer of 1970. Day-Lewis said: “Some say they see elements of me in Gloria Beautyman ‘whose body was completed, entire, the final version’. Others, apparently, would have me as Scheherazade, ‘the leggy temptress’. “I have ordered my copy of the novel. If I’m in doubt, I’ll ask Mart (Amis), otherwise I’ll say nothing.
