Is Tai Chi Ch’uan useful as a system of Self-defence?
Many martial artists will mention Tai Chi Ch’uan as the most fundamental art in self-defence. A main element of Tai Chi Ch’uan is that it does not oppose any force applied by an opponent. This means you do not need any strength to be able to defend yourself. Strange as this may seem this makes it more dangerous than all the arts for if you do use strength you are likely to cause irreparable damage, which is not the objective.
