Is synthetic car oil better? Can you go longer on oil changes with synthetic oil?

0

Synthetic oil offers better performance in all aspects over petrolium based oil. Petrolium oil is not pure oil, it contains many petrolium distillates in lesser quantities and breaks down sooner than synthetics. Synthetics are 100% what you want, no other chemicals which come along with the distilling process of petrolium products. Synthetic oil may cost a little more upfront, but you can safely extend oil change intervals to 10K miles or more depending on your driving conditions. If you plan on extending the drain interval past 10K miles, I would have your oil analysed by a professional service to get a clear picture before you leave it in your vehicle any longer. If you want to learn more, here is a link to the Motor Oil Bible which explains many of the issues regarding switching to synthetic oil. Take Care, Kevin Schappell
