Is Swedish similar to German?

Well by definition they have some similarities right off the bat, considering they’re both Germanic languages. But German is western Germanic and Swedish is northern Germanic i.e. Scandinavian. So if you want to think in terms of similarity, just remember that English and German are both western Germanic languages and look how close they are 0.0 Naw, English is a bad example, German and Dutch are both incredibly close to each other to the point of some mutual intelligibility. I honestly can’t say the same with Swedish though. Just compare the two side by side, they don’t even look the same. If you’re going to try to learn a language based on the fact that it’s close to one that you can already speak or have studied, don’t push your luck. Not every thing’s like the romance languages. So YES it is similar just because, but I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the similarities. In all seriousness and truth it’s a little pointless to learn Swedish. Sorry, but just too may Swedes already speak En
