Is supporting the troops different from agreeing with what the government engages them into?

As one of the “troops” (although not U.S. troops), I can say; “Yes.” The military is the only job where you can legally be ordered to lay down your life in the performance of your duty. This requires quite a bit of sacrifice on our part. While we (as troops) may not always agree with what we are being asked to do, we have an ethical responsibility to carry out our lawful commands. That the civilian population supports us and appreciates our willingness to do so, is an incredible comfort to us. If civilains do not like what we’re being asked to do, it is their responsibility to elect a government that will not order us to do those things that they don’t agree with. We (the troops) appreciate this separation of responsibilities and hold the civilian population to task for their part in this. Hope this helps.
