Is Sudafed safe to take during pregnancy?
Please call your OB and double check. I came down with a wicked sinus infection when I was 8 weeks along. My doc gave me a Z-pack for the infection and told me to take Sudafed and Tylenol (regular strength only) very sparingly, but as I needed to. I think I took 1 every 6 hours (recommended dosage was 2 every 4-6 hours). If I didn’t have the infection I would have tried to tough it out more. I just couldn’t though. I took them for about 3 days – including the day I had to fly 3000 miles to get home. (That was not fun!!) I also ended up with an upper respiratory infection, and was told to take Robitussin. NOT the DM or CF or any of those, but the original formula. Things that are ok to take at any stage are cough drops, tea w/honey, and Vicks Vapo Rub. Vicks is a godsend. It’s been 3 weeks and I still am fighting off the remnants of the infection, and Vicks is keeping me going. But please, please, please call your OB. They are your best resource.
I would definatly stay clear of Sudafed as it contains sudaefidrine which is a componant in speed. Consult your pharmist for a suitable medication to take during pregnancy. I know when i was 5 weeks preg i had the flu really bad and the pharmisist told me the only medication that was safe for me during the first trimester was paracetamol.
