Is studing in open university harder than normal uni?
Open university is not a harder option, but you must be sufficiently self motivated to do it. People who attend university are immerse into a culture of learning, so it is much easier to stay focussed on your course. O.U. students usually have other major priorities, so they need to be very disciplined in alloting time to studying. The problem with studying computer science online is that you will have less access to more exotic computer equipment and you will not be able to learn from the experiences of the other students. A large part of going to university is to learn more about the wider world and to meet a wide spectrum of people that you would otherwise never meet. Open university doesn’t really offer the same opportunities. Social networking over the internet is a very poor substitute to meeting and working with people face to face. My advice is to think about why you want a degree and then look at the experience of graduates of the course you are interested in. Course details a
