Is stock car racing returning to its roots?
Well from my perspective it has, at least on New Years Day 2009 in Rockingham, North Carolina. I had the awesome opportunity to return to stock car racing at “The Rock” this weekend. It was great to be back at my favorite racing venue and seeing spirited competition between people who just love to race. The flag dropped about 1:00 PM on New Years day and 68 racers took off 3 wide and 28 rows deep around the mile long oval that was left behind by NASCAR in Speedway Motorsports Incorporated’s pursuit of more profit in 2004. What a thrill it was to sit in the stands at “The Rock” again. It was great to be able to take my 16 and 17 year old boys out to a race at this North Carolina legend so rich in stock car racing history. Racing really returned here last year, with the Carolina 500 ARCA series race last May. I missed out on that but after a new year start like this one, you can bet I’ll be there this year April 19th and October 11th. I applaud Andy Hillenburg for the work he has done to
