No, and it is a sorry state of affairs when simply being left-footed is enough to get you considered for the England team. The solution was Joe Cole, who even though right-footed has done excellently there for the last couple of years… unfortunately he is now injured and there is a lack of quality to back up the position. Downing might be the 2nd best, but he won’t produce much, maybe one good game in 5, so he isn’t the solution to anything unless there is vacancy for a half-time orange carrier…
