Is Starbucks trying to dupe customers about their prices with a new outdoor menu?
The coffee chain is now featuring new outdoor menus at selected Starbucks’ drive-thrus, which advertise only “grande” and “venti” sizes failing to mention the still available “tall” order. Some bloggers believe Starbucks is being sneaky, nudging hurried customers to spend more money than they might have intended. However, Starbucks officials claim it isn’t about nudging sales. Spokeswoman Deb Trevino said, “If customers don’t like a change we’ve made, we listen and make changes, again.” But she also said, Starbucks hasn’t received a “significant number” of complaints about the menu board at the moment. One blogger wrote, “It’s disingenuous to suggest that how they simplified the menu was to benefit the customer. I don’t know why you’d suddenly drop your cheaper item off the menu.” Starbucks shrank the number of items on its drive-thru menu from 70 to 25.
