Is St. Roses 68-game winning streak in jeopardy?
On the surface, St. Rose at the very least appears to be more vulnerable than it has been in a while. The Roses only have three players back that saw significant action last year while their primary competition, Mater Dei, returns the meat of its lineup as well as some experienced pitchers. Still, the gap between St. Rose and the rest of the division has been so large, that merely knocking the Roses down a notch and raising Mater Dei only closes the gap, it does not change the landscape. Kyle Kennett will still pitch the big games for St. Rose, and as long as he does, the Roses should be able to hold off all comers in B Central. If St. Rose’s streak is safe, what is a good season for Mater Dei? A good showing in the division for Mater Dei would be something like what the Seraphs did last year when they went 9-3 in the division, played some good competition outside the division and made the NJSIAA Non-Public South B tournament. One goal Mater Dei can strive for, beyond knocking St. Rose
