Is St. Ignatius linebacker tandem Scott McVey and Jake Ryan the best LB duo in the state?
-Tom S. This is tough to say. If they aren’t the best, they are one of the best. McVey is a well-documented terror to opposing offenses and Ryan should have a good year after adding some size and strength. They should play well off one another and don’t be surprised if you see both of them unleashed simultaneously on blitzes this year to create some havoc in opposing backfields. But there are some duos around the state that could make an argument: Warren Harding’s Llewelyn Coker and Davion Rogers, Glenville’s Jayrone Elliott and James Gordon, Lima Shawnee’s Zac Rosenbauer and Nick Truesdale, and even Moeller’s Nick Galvin and Marcus Rush (although Rush is a hybrid DE/OLB). All I know is that if I were an opposing quarterback or running back, I wouldn’t want to see any of them bearing down on me. Have a question? Send it MParris@ohiovarsitysports.com.
