Is St. Francis School of Law accredited?
The St. Francis Juris Doctorate program has been approved by the State Bar of California and St. Francis is registered as a distance learning law school. However, neither the American Bar Association (the ABA) nor the State Bar of California will accredit online law schools. Although the ABA has discussed potentially changing this rule, to date, no online law school can be accredited by the ABA. Online law schools can, however, be accredited by accreditation agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Online law schools accredited by such agencies are able to accept federal financial aid. Since St. Francis does not accept federal financial aid, we have not sought accreditation. As we establish our reputation in the legal community and grow as an institution, we may consider seeking accreditation in the next two to three years.
