Yes, it is a two-player versus game (but the real fun is Online and the Single Player modes). However, the fighting is based on weapons, not martial arts, and the combat is much smoother and fast-paced and focused less on remembering long, annoying combinations (you can win by using simple two and three hit combos). And, contrary to the first user’s post, there ARE “Fatalities”, of a sort. If your opponent refuses to let go of the Block button, eventually he will be “Soul Crushed”, and you can press a button to instantly finish him off, no matter how much life he has left. So in terms of gameplay, it really doesn’t share much at all in common with Tekken, and maybe a little bit with later Mortal Kombats, after weapons were introduced as fighting styles.
