Yes Sodium Perborate can be irritating to the skin and definitely the respiratory tract if inhaled. I usually pour it right into the tray in my washing machine, so I don’t come in contact with it. The reason we use it is because it is a great alternative to bleach and it is not damaging to the environment. They use it in tooth whitening agents. You need to be careful with it, but it is not near as bad as bleach. It works a little better than a regular oxygen cleaner because it does not attract dirt like the oxygen cleaner does. The products we have it in are the bleach alternative and scouring powder and both are used with water, which I use with a wet sponge, so there is little chance of it getting into your lungs if you are careful.
