Is Sodium Bicarbonate a Performance-Enhancing Drug?
I often take a spoonful of baking soda mixed with water after a hard workout to prevent muscle soreness, a tip I got from amputee marathoner Amy Palmiero-Winters, but I’ve never heard of taking it before a workout. Sodium bicarbonate is a natural compound, so if you take that definition, then pasta, energy gels, and those “smelling salts” that Constantina Tomescu-Dita took during the marathon are all performance-enhancing drugs.
