Is Social Security Disability overused?

I’ve been on disability since I was in my early 20’s. There are times when I can work, usually part-time and then there are times when working is not possible at all. I know that I also look at people and wonder why they are getting SSI or SSDI when they are able to do things but there are many different disabilities which I do not understand. Currently I am working with doctors to eventually be able to regain my full independence and return to work full time but it’s not easy. I can honestly say that living on disability is no fun either. Well, not for me. I very much want to earn my own money and depend on myself. I hate having to admit that I am disabled. Doctors applied for disability for me and I wasn’t given the choice to try to make it without government assistance. If a person were asking me today if I would suggest applying for disability I would strongly suggest that people try instead to work with vocational services to work on what they CAN do instead of what they cannot. I
