Is soapstone the same material as french chalk?
soapstone is usually used to make small sculptures (good for beginners because it is so soft.) french chalk (powdered) is often used as an abrasive to polish something else, usually metal or another stone. It is very very fine and puts a soft glow on the object or material you are polishing. You mix it with a tiny bit of oil or water to polish the object and use a soft cloth like an old fabric baby diaper or cotton t-shirt.
