Is snowboarding an Olympic sport?
Snowboarding reached Olympic status in the 1998 games in Nagano, Japan. It celebrated two events, the halfpipe and parallel giant slalom in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In Turin, Italy (February 10th to 26th , 2006,) The Snowboard Cross will make its debut, representing alpine snowboarding with mens and womens teams taking part in the giant Slalom parallel, Half Pipe and Snowboard Cross. Snowboarding is not only one of the newer sports within the Olympic movement, but within Special Olympics too. Snowboarding was adopted by the International Olympic Committee as an Olympic sport in 1994, with an inaugural Olympic competition in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.
