Is slam poetry okay for audition monologue?
Unless you’re auditioning for a slam performance don’t do this. Your audition needs to show the people watching it that you can do what they are going to ask of you. That means good technique, good character work, and taking direction. So unless you think you’re going to be asked to perform spoken word poetry in the show, stick to a conventional monologue. There are plenty of compilations of monologues for almost every genre/gender/age combination, I recommend looking through a few of those if you’re having trouble finding material. Being quirky is a really bad way to stand out in an audition. Having the right look and demonstrating a basic proficiency in acting technique are far, far more important.
