Is Shillong becoming a crime capital?
By Our Spl Correspondent SHILLONG: The dead body of a young lady was thrown in a drain near Mawlai Iewgrynghep on June 12. It was recovered by police on June 13 and sent to Shillong Civil Hospital for post mortem. After that the body lay unclaimed and unidentified for one whole week. On Friday, the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) gave the body a decent burial. It was a simple burial ceremony of a nameless girl. Her body was already in high stage of decomposition. Interestingly, the police are yet to find any clues to the heinous crime. They have also not provided close-ups of the girl to the local or regional media for better identification. Whatever photographs are available have been clicked by in-house media photographers. The photographs reveal that the girl is a fairly well-dressed, modern city girl. If the deceased was in Shillong to pursue her studies and belongs to one of the northeastern states she would be living either in a hostel or a rented accommodation. In that
