Is serious redevelopment plans in the future for East Parkside section of West Philadelphia?
There are long-term redevelopment plans that were produced by the Neighborhood Assc. in the past five years that include green new construction and rehabilitated housing for mixed income residents, but while the EPRA has acquired several lots/sites for new construction, funding and development partners have been difficult to come by in this environment and their plans are essentially on the backburner for now. However, in my 3 years out here as a homeowner/DIYer/investor, I’ve seen no less than a dozen boarded shells rehabbed and flipped by independant contractors and can assure you that even the modest properties have fabulous bones w/ 19th century floors, tile, glass, etc. I also know that the Zoo, Please Touch, the Mann and Fairmount Park draw over 1.8 million patrons with kids and cash in hand each year, the new Lowes/Shoprite development is a success & our proposed “Centennial District Authorization Act” in congressional committee right now that promises to bring $45 million of in
