Is seat belt use required in New York State?
Yes, seat belt use is required by law in New York State. All passengers in the front seat of a motor vehicle must wear a seat belt or ride in a child safety seat. All passengers in the back seat of a motor vehicle who are under the age of 16 must wear a seat belt or ride in a child safety seat. All children under age 10 must wear a seat belt or ride in a child safety seat when they ride in recreational vehicles, mobile homes or campers. Children under age four must ride in approved child safety seats.
