Is Sea Salt truely better for you than regular Table Salt?

I like sea salt in my salad because it is bolder and chunkier. Sea salt doesnt have iodine in it which is bad for thyroid…In first world countries they add the iodine to table salt. If you are just dissolving the salt in boiling water there wont be that much of a difference. There are more minerals in sea salt, but like I said the only way to notice is undisolved- hence why i think its a good choice for salad. Also if you want to season a steak with salt and pepper use that. Overall table salt will have a little more of a health benefit, but the chances of someone in america not gettig enough iodine is slim. Sea salt is kinda classier and gives food just a little something more.

Sea salt and regular salt both contain the same minerals since they come from the same source (salt from the sea). Sea salt is dried from the ocean water while regular salt was dug from ancient beach areas with no human intervention in drying it. For health reasons (preventing thyroid goiter) the regular table salt has iodine added. That makes it better for you. The nice thing about sea salt is that it comes in larger crystals that you can grind yourself.

Iodized salt is cheapest, kosher salt is a larger grain and slightly more expensive, and sea salt is overpriced and an even larger grain. Salt is essential, and it’s pretty much been dismissed as being a contributor to high blood pressure. I don’t think there’s much difference in the types of salt as relates to health, so go with what you’re wallet tells you and just use in moderation. Taste your food before adding salt. My mother-in-law sits down at the table and starts adding salt without even tasting her food first. After she complained one time that something was “too salty” I told her, “Mine’s fine…perhaps you should’ve tasted it before adding so much.” She’s stopped doing that, and I notice she uses less. At least when I cook. Out at a restaurant, same thing.

The main difference between sea salt and table salt is the fact that table salt has gone to some refinements where minerals are extracted from it to be used for other purposes. Sea salt on the other hand does go into any form of refinement and still has its natural occuring minerals in tact.
