Is science really progressing in the medical field?

In some areas, yes… but the medical field is based around natural (biological) phenomena, so technology is out of place in some parts of the field – and the medical establishment is notoriously biased towards technology/chemistry and against the natural processes. So there are some areas wherein technology is actually causing more problems than it’s solving. I think overall that the medical field should stick to its purpose – addressing acute pathological circumstances with proven, evidence-based treatments – and should steer clear of health maintenance and normal, physiological functions.
