Is schistosomiasis a contagious disease?
I answered your question, which you’ve asked more than once. Schistosomiasis isn’t transmitted from one person directly to another. It’s transmitted through skin contact with contaminated fresh water in which certain freshwater snails live and which are hosts to Schistoma blood fluke. The snails release free-swimming larvae which can survive outside a host for 48 hours. They quickly penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream. From there they can travel to any part of the body, not just the liver. Fresh water becomes contaminated when an infected person urinates or defecates in the water. Flukes are excreted in urine and feces. It’s not a contagious disease but can be transmitted by the means I described. This is a problem in tropical countries.
