Is Sam Adams statement in John Adams HBO Miniseries a fact?

While Samuel Adams may have had the kind of thoughts that would have expressed this sentiment it is unlikely that he would have expressed it in that manner. He was a very religious man who held the Puritan ideal very high and would have probably held back from breaking the 3rd Commandment in that manner. It is most likely that this is what is called literary license by those who write books and movies. I have read the book upon which the movie is based: John Adams by David McCullough, and I do not remember that being mentioned in the text. Having said that I don’t believe Sam Adams was some kind of Saint and he very well could have been known to uncork a cuss word now and then so it is not impossible that it occurred.
