Is sailing dangerous?

Sailing round the world single-handed is undoubtedly dangerous, but the sort of sailing we offer definitely isn’t. All boats we charter have very experienced skippers. There is a safety briefing on the first day before the boats set sail. Boats are also supplied with all necessary safety equipment including life-jackets and harnesses (to allow you to clip to the boat if the weather gets rough). All boats also have radios and state of the art navigation equipment and will not leave harbour if severe winds or gales are forecast.

Any sport can be considered dangerous. With the right precautions and listen to who is in charge it can be quite safe. I don’t think sharks should be your main concern. I’ve taught sailing for quite some time, and sailed longer than that. On both small boats and big boats and there have been no huge incidents besides a little sliver from the docks, or me being stupid and falling in the water off the docks. Wearing a lifejacket is possibly the best thing you could do, i always wear one, and it keeps you warmer as well. Southern California!, i am not sure about the winds in your area, but checking the forecast hasn’t hurt anybody, the more the wind the better! (to an extent). Just some tips when you go sailing to be just that little bit safer. -Lifejacket -Be aware of your surroundings… -The Boom (the big horizontal pole hanging just above your head) …The boom is attatched to the sail… a giant piece of fabric that can catch quite a bit of wind. When the direction of the wind change
