Is Russia politically stable?
Yes. Even with United Russia’s election exuberance, by most observers the will of the people was fulfilled this past election. The expected smooth transfer of presidential power to pro-western Russian reformer Dmitry Medvedev is anticipated to bring further stability and democracy to Russia. This last election has stirred much debate in Russia and as a consequence election improvements are anticipated. A liberal/conservative two party system has emerged and some of the widely dispersed opposition parties are expected to be absorbed into either party bringing further stability. Many people would be surprised by the religious revival taking place in Russia. Putin recently admitted reading the bible and thought the suppression of religion by the communists was a mistake, as Russia is now moving to a more tolerant society.
