Is rote learning an effective way to ensure retention?
Rote learning is useful and effective when the material to be learnt is fact based or when the questions are designed to test facts and not comprehension. Therefore, learning through repetition is effective for items that are to be reproduced as they are or are in lists. But if you want to learn topics that tests concepts then rote-based learning may not be suitable.
