Is Rosetta Stone language learning software valuable?
I found Rosetta Stone frustrating since it doesn’t explain the grammar behind phrases. You’ll get some vocabulary and pronunciation feedback, but if you don’t know the basic structure of the language it becomes more difficult to understand things that you haven’t seen in Rosetta. A good language program will teach you a little of everything and make it engaging at the same time. The best all-around programs I’ve seen are Tell Me More French and Fluenz French. I think they both surpass Rosetta in the way they teach and in their flexibility for different people and levels. They are also cheaper than Rosetta. There are also other, cheaper programs, but you will have to give up some quality for savings. For any program, including Rosetta, make sure you practice speaking out loud whenever possible and find a French conversation partner either online or locally. Bonne chance!
