Is Rob Lowe leaving the ABC television show “Brothers and Sisters”?”
Reports have indicated that Lowe asked to be released from his contract and felt underutilized on the weekly drama. ABC granted his request and as such, he’ll leave at the end of this season of Brothers and Sisters. In fact, unlike the Conan-NBC debacle, employee-employee relations are good with Lowe and ABC. They would like to remain in touch with the actor and they’re going to be in talks about having him headline his very own series. As for how Brothers and Sisters will write out his character on the show, the jury’s still out on that one. Although the Robert-Kitty divorce is the likeliest of scenarios considering their marital strife, they’re likely going with a divorce theme or will simply kill him off. Just last week when he was guest on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Lowe didn’t indicate any hints of a sudden departure from Brothers and Sisters. Lowe, who was brought on early in the series to help spark ratings, simply felt being a Walker outsider wasn’t fulfilling anymore. Rob’s decision may have come at a convenient time for the network. Rob Lowe is leaving another drama series after four seasons. Lowe will depart ABC’s family drama “Brothers & Sisters,” the network confirmed. Lowe joined “Brothers & Sisters” shortly after the start of the series in the fall of 2006 as a recurring and was quickly promoted to regular, playing Sen. Robert McCallister. While he has played a key role in several story lines on the show, mostly through his romantic relationship with Kitty (Calista Flockhart), McCallister has never risen to the level of prominence of the Walker family members, who are at the center of the show. The exit, first reported on deadline.com, is not as dramatic as Lowe’s 2002 departure from NBC’s “The West Wing” after four seasons over a salary dispute. And Lowe may continue on ABC. “We would like to keep Rob at ABC,” the network’s entertainment president Steve McPherson said in a statement. “We feel he should be anchoring his own franchise.
