No internet connection is free. At least in the USA. If you happen to have a laptop with wireless capabilities, perhaps you can reach connection in public places like McDonalds, public libraries, businesses and establishments, that offer it free of charge to you; but they are paying loads of money to have the service available for their customers. In a large number of occasions you need to ask for their password to use it, and you’re only allowed to use it for a certain time. No more than 2 hours at a time, perhaps less. While in the future you might have the opportunity to connect your computer directly to your phone line and connect to the internet as long as you’re paying for phone service; that service is still not available.
