Is revaccination justified?
Yes, sometimes. It is justified when: • valuable bulls or cows are involved, especially if moving to a high-risk, tick infested area • vaccinated cattle are purchased without a guarantee of successful vaccination (buyer beware) • some cattle in a vaccinated herd are known to have missed out on vaccination • there has been a notified change in the vaccine. This has occurred on three occasions since 1976. Vaccinating animals a second time will not harm them. It will also benefit the small proportion of animals that do not respond to the initial vaccination. Repeated vaccinations should be avoided.
