The main ResNet service available in almost all residences uses a cable, not wireless. You connect your computer to a socket on the wall. We supply a suitable ethernet cable free of charge. Some residences have ResNet Wireless available in rooms as well. Wired and wireless are complementary. Wired provides a much faster and more reliable connection but wireless is more convenient, especially if you have more than one computer. We have a programme to roll out ResNet Wireless to more residences over the next few years. If you want to use wireless in your room and live in a residence without ResNet Wireless you can connect your own wireless router, subject to certain conditions. The University also has over 200 wireless hotspots. They can be found in libraries, foyers, bars, tea rooms, many departments and central areas in halls.
