The truth of the matter is that residential photovoltaic use is largely dependent on the climate you live in. Most areas will have some seasons and days of sun, the use of solar energy is going to be much more effective if you have sunlight a lot of the time. So to assist your PV panels why not supplement them with wind energy in the form of a home made windmill again if you have non technically written plans of how to do this you will not find it all that hard to implement.
