Is Repent and Be Baptised talking about Water or the Spirit?
To repent means to agree with God concerning sin and to turn away from. To say you are sorry and call that repentance is inadequate. We all know that children,(especially teens) say they are sorry as a form of apology and turn around and repeat the same offense. So repentance is a turning away from the offense and toward obedience. Baptism is also an act of obedience and is done publically as an outward expression of an inward reality. This is a confession of the Lordship of Christ in ones life wherein The Word declares if you confess me before men I will confess you before the Father. Baptism is by water. Some say that an additional work of grace is the Baptism in the Spirit but this is a matter which might be vigorously debated but should not be a point of division. The truth is that if you have accepted Christ in your heart, He dwells then within you in the person of the Holy Spirit.
