Is religiosity the natural result of materialism?
Las Vegas. Capital of Sin. But ‘Sin’ only works if it exists in opposition to something: namely morality, religiosity, righteous indignation, call it what you will. People suggest anything goes, but what good is rebellion if it is not in opposition to something such as the status quo? In a bookstore in Las vegas, a haven for anyone craving intellectual stimulation and a feeling of community, a gathering spot for like-minded types, or at least for people who do not believe books to be redundant uses of the rain forests. On the notice board in the bookstore, most of the community activities posted relate roughly to either religion, i.e. Bible Study, or Mysticism, i.e. gathering together, in an attempt at finding one’s inner spirit and connecting it to others. In other words, there seems to be a glaring need to connect with others, find deeper meanings communicate in ways that are perhaps below consciousness.
