Is releasing each song at a time for free a way to fight against piracy?
This is our way of trying to make sure that the quality of music is not adulterated. There are multiples issues with releasing an album through CD’s or cassettes. First up, there’s always a tendency to have two or three flagship songs (which can be made into videos) and then just put other songs to have the album run for a length of around 45 minutes. Then there’s the worry that when the pirated MP3’s (converted from the CD’s) hit the internet, they’re burnt at a low quality so the audio suffers. Finally, there’s the clear disadvantage of selling a medium (CD’s or cassettes) instead of selling music. By releasing singles, we ensure that every song goes through a stringent quality check. We don’t release the song unless we feel it’s our best song at the time and also ensure that the MP3 that’s uploaded is the best quality possible, since it’s straight from the studio master.
