Is Red Mange the same thing as Demodex Mange?
Demodectic mange, also known as “red mange,” is an inflammatory parasitic disease of the skin. There are several names for red mange such as demo mange, demodex mange, demodectic mange, red fox mange and the seven year itch mange. Demo mange, if present, usually occurs within the first two years of life. Demodex can also occur later on in life and is also commonly known as “adult onset demodicosis.” Demodex is hereditary and is passed on via an animal’s genetics. Additionally Red mange is not passed on by direct contact and not considered contagious. For this reason, demodex is not a desirable trait and recommended that these pets are not breed. The pet in question should be surgically altered to prevent further spreading of this type of mange. It is also important to note that not all cases of demodex mange are readily and easily treated by using proven mange medicine and mange creams.
