The term red indians is a derogatory way of referring to the American Indian in general. It has its roots in Colonial America. Contrary to popular belief, the term does not refer to the color of the Indian’s skin ( unless he was sunburned) but to the killing of the Indians in such a manner that their skins would turn red.
