Is Ranchos “cellular gas” (foam cell) design better than a gas-pressure type?
We believe so. Gas shocks were all the rage many years ago and their design does help prevent the oil from foaming when the shock is working. The down-side to the story is that they place enormous pressure on the seals and therefore, the life of the shock can be relatively short. Plus, the nitrogen gas, being in direct contact with the oil, can cause the oil to aerate under extreme conditions. Rancho RS5000 and 9000X shocks use a cellular design encapsulating low-pressure gas. The design feature is superior to gas shocks as it is very effective in keeping the oil under control but does not place undue stress on the seals, and the oil cannot become aerated with nitrogen. Q: A friend of mine bought another brand of shock and, within a week, found it to be not working properly. The 4WD shop told him they would have to send it back to the distributor for testing before they could replace it. Does Auto Alliance operate like this? A: No. As an Auto Alliance customer you will get immediate se
